of education settings teaching art fundamentals.
The course provides the foundation for teaching an art program utilizing

Fulbright Faculty Exchange 1999-2000
Conducted four workshops at the University centered on creating museum
programs for children. The participants represented a variety of Cairo
museums art educators and art education faculty from Helwan University.
The workshops focused on the major art movements in Egypt beginning with
the Pharonic period. Aside from the historical information, the big idea
behind each one of the projects was to engage the workshop participants
and eventually the children who visited the museums of Egypt in finding
a personal experience within each activity.

Created a course on "West African" drum making. The course was
held in conjunction with a series present under the banner of Art Education
focusing on music, dance, storytelling and visual arts for classroom teachers.
Each student made a drum and sculpted their personal tale into the design.
The students using their own drum to perform their stories culminated
the series with a performance.

Created a twelve hour workshop for selected students in a gifted and talented
children's art program program. The subject was mixed media with emphasis
on historical and cultural context. The last three years students have
made functional art pieces with roots in African architecture and cultural
traditions.

Supervision and management of artist in schools program. Responsibilities
include services to schools, teachers and artists and coordination and
organization of program. Communication with artists, principals, teachers,
staff, parents and volunteers. Selection of artists, recruitment and training
of artists. Management of programs, budgets, staff, student assistants
and artist support. In addition, arts planning with schools and coordinating
family nights.
ARTPATH artist in residency program serves the San Jose area, approximately
6,500 children and over 200 teachers in an average of 15 schools a year
work with ARTPATH artists.
In 2001-2002 ARTPATH has an afterschool program in six schools in partnership
with the Office of Cultural Affairs, City of San Jose.

For nine years I chaired the visual artists workshop committee for an
annual children's art workshop festival sponsored by the Santa Cruz Cultural
Council. Hundreds of children attended the one-day festival to work alongside
artists in many different arts areas. This ten-month commitment also reflected
my work as a dedicated art educator and representative of the academic
community at San Jose State.
